Pin any room to the sidebar, with folders (like Discord) #104

Let people pin any room (DMs and rooms inside spaces included) to the left sidebar as its own icon, so rooms they keep visiting are one click away. Upstream's show_rooms_in_sidebar setting only adds one "Rooms" entry for every room with no space; this is per-room.

Design (agreed with the operator 2026-10-08; when in doubt copy Discord)

  • New sidebar item type, a room, next to spaces and folders. It shares their ordering, so a pinned room can sit between spaces and can go into a folder (drag onto a space or folder).
  • Toggle: "Pin to sidebar" / "Unpin from sidebar" in the room context menu; "Unpin" on the sidebar icon's context menu. Later: drag a room from the Home list onto the sidebar.
  • Circle avatar so it reads differently from rounded-square spaces; same unread dot and mention badge.
  • Click opens the room directly, like a Discord DM.
  • Saved in its own account-data event (im.nether.chat.sidebar_rooms), NOT inside chat.commet.sidebar_ordering: Commet's save rewrites that whole event with only spaces and folders, so pins stored there would be wiped by an upstream Commet on another device. Order strings compare the same across both events.
  • Leaving the room hides the icon; a saved pin is only pruned once the room is known to be gone, not just not loaded yet.

Upstream check 2026-10-08: no open Commet issue/PR (closest: #880 closed by the global toggle; #297 general ideas).
