2026-10-08 01:38:53 +00:00 | -234 commits to main since this releaseTesting build. Expect rough edges. Vommet is an LLM-assisted fork of Commet. Please report problems on this repo's issue tracker, never on Commet's.
Built from the
testingbranch at commitdb2ef61. The Linux and Android files are the ones CI built and tested for this exact commit; the Windows zip was built from the same commit on GitHub's Windows runners. This build also brings a "What's New" page: after you update, Vommet lists what changed since the version you last used (also under Settings › About › What's New).
New since testing-2026-10-07e
Fixes
- Android: should no longer crash when someone starts or switches a screen share, or when you join a call where one is running (a known WebRTC bug; we carry the upstream fix). Please tell us if it still crashes.
- Android: screen sharing should now start properly. It shares your whole screen (Android doesn't allow sharing a single app here).
- Rooms no longer show up twice in the room list right after signing in.
- When someone switches what they share, the enlarged view follows the new stream instead of going blank.
- Joining a call retries once by itself if the network drops for a moment.
- Desktop screen sharing no longer logs an audio-processing error.
New
- Discord-style call controls: a "Voice Connected" card, plus mute and deafen buttons with device menus next to your name.
- Profile and audio quick controls (experiment): a profile card with status and presence, microphone and output volume sliders, and a Voice Settings shortcut.
- Calls in ordinary chats (experiment): when people start an Element Call in a group chat or DM, Vommet shows who's in it and a Join button.
- Message timestamps (experiment, Settings › Experiments › Message experiments): type
<t:UNIX>(optionally<t:UNIX:F>etc.) or$[UNIX], and everyone sees the time in their own time zone. - matrix: links from other apps open the room or profile in Vommet (and matrix.to links on Android).
- Commet supporter badges are shown as-is, without a donation check at startup.
- Diagnostics (only if you opted in): how long leaving a call takes and which step failed; the server's standard error code (never its message); room-open timings. The full list is on the privacy page.
Install
Linux (Flatpak, x86_64)
flatpak install --user ./vommet-testing-x86_64.flatpak flatpak run im.nether.chatAndroid (arm64): download
vommet-testing-arm64.apkand open it. It installs as an update.Windows (x64): download
vommet-testing-windows-x64.zip, unzip it anywhere, and runRelease\vommet.exe. Not code-signed yet: SmartScreen warns the first time ("More info", then "Run anyway").Known limits
- Built and tested by CI; the Android crash fix and screen sharing still need a real-device check.
- GIF search returns an error until the proxy gets a Klipy key (#12).
