  Testing build. Expect rough edges. Vommet is an LLM-assisted fork of Commet. Please report problems on this repo's issue tracker, never on Commet's.

  Built from the testing branch at commit b86a213. The Linux and Android files are the ones CI built and tested for this exact commit; the Windows zip was built from the same commit on GitHub's Windows runners. Settings › About shows testing-2026-10-09b.

  Security

  • Encryption markers: a small icon after each room's name says whether it's encrypted; tap it for a short explanation. On by default (can be switched off under Experiments).
  • Trust warnings in direct messages: a warning when the other person's security key changes (someone could be impersonating them), and a note when they never set up secure messaging. On by default.

  Notifications

  • Notifications are no longer silenced just because another device of yours is online; they're quieted only while you're actively chatting in that room elsewhere.
  • With several accounts, push notifications arrive for all of them, not just one.
  • Settings › Notifications lists your account's push registrations, with a Remove button; Vommet cleans up its own stale ones.

  Fixes

  • Avatars are sharp in the profile card and on opened profiles; voice room badges are crisp.
  • On phones during a call, opening the keyboard shrinks the call to a slim strip so you can still see the chat.
  • On phones, tapping outside the message box clears a text selection.
  • Tapping the icon of the space you're already in opens its home page.
  • Linux: very tall or wide pictures are no longer squashed; the viewer opens them at full resolution.
  • Reordering rooms in a space no longer brings back rooms you removed.

  New

  • Remove hidden info replaces "Send original" (on by default), with a "What's this?" explanation of what a picture carries, like location or camera.
  • Subspaces on a space's page get their own shade and a coloured bar.
  • Right-click (or long-press) a picture or file in the member panel's Media and Files tabs to jump to it, forward, save or copy it.
  • Settings › Experiments: Back to new-user defaults, with "Restore my setup" to undo.
  • Experiments: open a voice room's chat in one click; manage a space's rooms (reorder, move, remove); a picture gallery in the viewer (arrow keys or swipe).
  • Diagnostics (only if you opted in): an optional name tag you type yourself, and counts of what happened to notifications.

  Install

  Linux (Flatpak, x86_64)

  flatpak install --user ./vommet-testing-x86_64.flatpak
  flatpak run im.nether.chat
  

  Android (arm64): download vommet-testing-arm64.apk and open it. It installs as an update.

  Windows (x64): download vommet-testing-windows-x64.zip, unzip it anywhere, and run Release\vommet.exe. Not code-signed yet: SmartScreen warns the first time ("More info", then "Run anyway").

  Known limits

  • Built and tested by CI; not hand-tested yet.
