Report

Commet crashes at startup on Arch Linux some of the time; relaunching sometimes works.

Needed to start

  • A backtrace: coredumpctl list commet, then coredumpctl info <PID> (or coredumpctl gdb <PID> then bt full).
  • App version and install method (AUR, flatpak, .deb, self-built), Wayland or X11, desktop environment, GPU and driver.
  • Does our CI Linux bundle crash the same way?

Unconfirmed lead

Building Commet locally on an Arch-based distro (CachyOS, 2026-07-03) with a newer clang failed on hotkey_manager_linux 0.2.0: two genuinely uninitialised const char* variables (-Wsometimes-uninitialized, fatal under -Werror). Reading uninitialised pointers is undefined behaviour, and a plugin that registers global hotkeys at startup is a plausible source of random startup crashes. A local patch exists from that build. This stays a hypothesis until a backtrace points there.

If confirmed

Carry the patch in this fork via pubspec_overrides, and report it to leanflutter/hotkey_manager, which is a separate project with no LLM policy issue. Also check whether the AUR package builds with a compiler that hides the warning.

Filed with LLM assistance. This is a fork-only issue; never refile it on Commet's tracker.
